Phones with true flexible and foldable displays are on the way! It could be a major change in the industry. It turns out the first true foldable phone will probably come from a company few have heard of, even though it’s been developing flexible display technology for many years.
The China-based Royole surprised the industry in late October by announcing it would release the Royole FlexPai. It has a 7.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1440 resolution and measures 7.5 x 5.3 x 0.3 inches.
The Snapdragon 855-powered Flexpai has two cameras rated at 16 and 20 megapixels, and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in its $1,318 base model. You can already preorder from Royole.
All the major smartphone makers are working on foldable phones. Samsung might launch a foldable phone likely to be called the Galaxy F.
Huawei and Oppo are expected to launch their first foldable phones at the MWC 2019.
Xiaomi, LG and Motorola too have plans to launch foldable smartphones. A lack of innovation and limited new features are stopping buyers from putting their money on new smartphones.
This means people are holding on to phones for longer as they don’t see any value in upgrading to the latest models.
The only way to see the market can bounce back is by introducing foldable phones.
People aren’t really as interested in paying up for a high price device that doesn’t really do much more than their old device
